Aira Force looks lovely this time of year – but best of all, there’s barely anyone else in the area in the off-season. Little Turtle was fascinated when their hosts at Lowthwaite told them the area was settled by vikings at one point, which is why waterfalls are called “force” instead of “falls” and hills are called fells.
